It was Monday afternoon. I got home from college and sat my laptop down on my desk, planning out an essay due next week. I stared at the blank document for what seemed like centuries. Slowly, an itch began to grow in the back of my head. I hadn’t realized it then, but there was someone in the room, I just knew it. But, after considering how slim the chances of that were, I moved on to get my work done. Ever since my birthday last week, I had been getting odd sensations, as if someone had been looking for me, someone dangerous. That feeling had not gone away until only a couple of days back.
Soon after, I started working on the essay. I was told to choose a topic from a list I was given and write just 4 pages on it. Out of all the topics, for some reason, I was naturally inclined to "Endangered Animals: Victims of Humanity". I don’t know what it was, but I had always related to animals and their suffering. I continued to write and eventually, exhausted, I closed my computer and went on to make myself a cup of coffee for the evening.
As I looked out, I noticed something strange. It was getting really dark. I looked at my clock, to see how long I had been working. It was only a quarter to six, and usually, it wouldn't be dark around this time. Curious, I carefully walked up to the window, half expecting to see clouds blocking out the sunlight. Instead, I found the last thing I had ever expected. There was a giant blimp over my neighborhood. An enormous aircraft, casually sitting in the sky as if it belonged there, and I couldn’t conjure up a single reason why.
The oddity of this alone sent me into a state of panic. I started towards my table where I had kept my phone to call the police and see what all this was about. In the heat of the moment, I must’ve lost my sense of direction because next, I tripped over something and fell back onto the floor. My vision blurred. All I could make out was a woman standing over me, gasping for air and saying 'There is no time, we must go now, or it would have all been for nothing.' And after that, the world went black.
